8 Mismatched Outfits That Work and Why

This bold and chic look takes an unlikely print like cheetah and makes it office-worthy. Keep it classy with a long enough hemline, and add a tailored boyfriend blazer to calm down this wild print. The floral (or even tie dye) scarf adds dimension and personality making this look classy not trashy.

When I saw this, I instantly fell in love. The gingham stole my heart right away, then the leopard solidified it for me. This look works because leopard acts as a neutral. The darkness of the navy/black pull the three pieces (the gingham shirt, scarf, and blazer) together. Gold accessories pull the beige/gold undertones of the scarf together making this look a preppy inspiration.

We all know Blair. We love Blair. Her style is the most covetable in all the blogging world! Her preppy pieces are put together in such a way that we are swooning over every combination. This paisley-brocade skirt seems unlikely to match with her simple striped turtleneck, but the black commonality makes it work. Adding a pop of color with her red lip and bringing together the brown and black combo in her shoes- this blogger is truly an inspiration for mixed prints.

Tory Burch is a beauty in mixed prints. These geometrically-printed shorts blend perfectly with the exact shade of maroon/pink in the top's crazy print. The trick here is to keep a common color theme and always keep the larger print on the body part you want to emphasize.

Sydney of The Daybook is among my favorite blogger because of her uncanny ability to pair unlikely pieces together and make it look absolutely effortless! Here, she wears a gorgeous tribal-printed sweater from Romwe and adds it to a modest striped pencil skirt. Anchoring the look with white tights and neutral ankle booties, she nails this look. To add depth, she topped it off with a trendy fur vest. This look works because no matter how crazy the print, what makes it work is that the add-ons are neutral.

As I've always said (and done) different prints work well together if you do it the right way. The polka dot blazer here is a nice staple that will take you from the office to drinks. Pair it with a casual white tee and some understated jewelry to bring in your personality and you have just half the ingredients to this fun and casual look. Next, the model chose floral printed pants with the common color black to pull in  from the blazer, making sure that the prints were about the same size to make it work!

Oxblood is all the rage this fall and the hue pairs nicely with so many different colors. Mustard, for one, is my particular favorite. This outfit includes the two others (pale blue and navy) that pair best with oxblood. The chevron top is navy and white; pulling the blue from the blazer while the chambray breaks up the navy's continuity without stealing the show from mustard. I love how she donned the oxblood scarf to tie in the boots. Perfect!

Oh, Madewell you've done it again. This quirky combo works because the sweater (although fun with its polka dots) blends in because it's a soft neutral hue. The gingham underneath does not compete with the color of the pants or shoes being that it's black and white. Red and green are among the best colors to complement each other on the color wheel (but be careful of your green being too true green else you run the risk of looking like a Christmas tree).

  6. Let's just say that I agree with 50% of these styles because some of them look a little too random to me.

I am not much of a pattern girl, I must admit.

I am also a blogger, but I mainly focus on the fashion of legwear.
