Golden Globes Chic: Dress Like the Stars

My first pick for best dressed at the Golden Globes last night was Evan Rachel Wood's gorgeous floor length Gucci gown. I was in love with the way this dress mixed textures! From the low cut to the sparkle to the feather embellishment, this dress wowed me when I watched the show.

To make it doable in the everyday, cut the length and let the textures speak for themselves by keeping the color muted. When a dress is this busy, it is best to keep accessories to a minimum. The nude heels and minimalistic gold bracelet allows the texture to take center stage in your look!

True to predictions, Rooney Mara star of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, sported an edgy Lanvin number. Her sexy cutouts in this dress were mysterious as well as drop-dead gorgeous. I loved how she kept her hair simple and her makeup smokey. With a nude lip and no jewelry, Mara kept the look simple; allowing the cutouts to steal the show.

To translate this look from the runway to real life, keep the side cutouts, but in a shorter length dress. Keeping with Rooney Mara's style, add an edgy piece of jewelry like this ring and heels with an equally edgy embellishment like studs.

One of my absolute favorite looks from the Golden Globes was that of Charlize Theron. This delicate pink stunner dazzles with that "look at me" front slit and sideswept detailing. This cut is extremely flattering for almost every shape. Create hips with a larger piece on the side of a dress, or hide imperfections by gathering fabric to drape across your hips and stomach. I love how Charlize dolled up her look by adding a simple diamond headband and strappy nude sandals.

This look is easily worn on occasions such as a spring/summer wedding. The color looks amazing on virtually every skin tone. A plunging neckline and sideswept details keep the dress feminine and all you need to add to the look is a simple piece that lets the dress stand out like a ring and strappy sandals.

Effortlessly chic Reese Witherspoon looked gorgeous last night in classic red. Her sweetheart neckline was perfect, no necklace needed. The fit of this dress really showed off her shape without any extra detailing. I love how Reese's hair was kept long and wavy, it added to the simple appeal of her overall look. Red is a beautiful color on every skin tone.

To wear it everyday, consider a bandage dress fit. Much like Reese's, the fit of this style of dress hugs curves and is extremely comfortable. Dress up the look with crystal embellished heels and a simple diamond bracelet. Let the red be the center of the look by keeping hair long, wavy and non-fussy.

A show-stopping look last night was Claire Danes and her backless J. Mendel gown. I was loving the back detailing and how simple and chic the front of her dress was. Red lipstick was the perfect accessory for her look. Keeping hair simple and pulled back really allowed the back to shine.

Reminding me of Claire Danes' gown, this NYE inspired dress has a similar back and strap cut. Give the look a personal edge by donning cutout wedge booties.

What were your favorite looks from the Golden Globes? I also loved Jessica Alba, Sofia Vergara and Emma Stone's looks at the show. But what in God's name was Sarah Michelle Gellar's stylist thinking? The print would have been cute in a cocktail dress and the length/style would have been gorgeous in a solid color. Both together=train wreck! What did you think?

  6. The silver ring really looks great on a red dress. I would love to wear that ring along with a long red dress. Reese Witherspoon looks gorgeous on the photo. By the way, look at her bracelet, it's so fabulous.
